A 52-year-old man has been arrested for the alleged murder of his girlfriend in Mgcobaneni, Masoyi, Mpumalanga, on 29 May.

According to Sergeant Nanikie Nonyane, spokesperson for the Masoyi Police Station, the suspect and the victim, a nurse at Manzini Clinic, were cohabiting when an argument erupted between them. The suspect accused his girlfriend of infidelity, leading to a heated confrontation.

During the altercation, the victim attempted to escape by fleeing to a neighbor’s house. The suspect pursued her and allegedly fired multiple shots, one of which struck her in the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Upon arresting the suspect, police recovered a 9mm Griffen pistol with three rounds of ammunition and one magazine. The firearm was confiscated as evidence.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Masoyi Magistrate’s Court on  2 June, facing charges of murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

This incident has sparked renewed concerns over gender-based violence in the region. Authorities urge anyone experiencing domestic abuse or aware of such situations to contact local law enforcement or support organizations immediately.
