The exhibition held at the Sabie Town Hall on 19 May 2025 proved a great success, drawing large crowds from the local community. The event brought together various organisations and speakers who encouraged youth and small business owners to apply for funding and provided guidance on how to qualify.

Representatives from the Small Enterprise Finance Agency (SEFA) were among the key speakers. They explained how SEFA supports entrepreneurs by paying service providers on behalf of businesses, assisting with business proposals, and ensuring products are market-ready and protected. “SEFA walks with you,” said one representative, emphasising their commitment to supporting entrepreneurs throughout their journey.

Attendees were also informed that in June, training and funding opportunities would be provided for petroleum and chemical sectors in Secunda. These include training programmes, funding access, and designated petroleum spaces for qualifying entrepreneurs.

Regarding spaza shop funding, SEFA outlined strict eligibility criteria: applicants must be 100% South African, registered with their local municipality, compliant with relevant regulations, and actively managing their shops.

Zanele Fundza of the Green Cluster Agency presented on opportunities in the green economy. The agency works with SMMEs to promote sustainability, offering support in areas such as renewable energy and recycling. “We visit communities, assess recyclable materials, and advise on how to turn waste into opportunity,” she said.

Mzwakhe Lubisi focused on terms and conditions for funding under programmes supporting skills development, business start-ups, and existing businesses. Key considerations include job creation, innovation, use of technology, export readiness, and manufacturing. He stressed that 51% black-owned businesses are prioritised and that both small and large enterprises may apply—provided they partner with recognised institutions.

The event served as an important platform for information sharing, inspiration, and empowerment for emerging entrepreneurs in Sabie and surrounding areas.
