MEC Dlamini Commends Progress, Urges Support

MEC Cathy Dlamini visits Lindani Primary in Sabie, praises strong academic performance, urges safety and community collaboration, and donates school shoes to learners.

The MEC for Education, Ms. Cathy Dlamini, conducted a school support visit to Lindani Primary School on 19 May in Simile Township, Sabie, located in the Bohlabela District under Thaba Chweu Local Municipality. The visit, part of an ongoing initiative to strengthen teaching and learning, focused on assessing progress and encouraging continued community involvement.

Lindani Primary School currently serves 575 learners from Grade R to Grade 7. During her visit, MEC Dlamini acknowledged the notable strides made at the school and within the Sabie Circuit. She praised the commitment of teachers, learners, school management, and parents for fostering an environment where education is thriving.

The Sabie Circuit achieved an 86.9% pass rate in the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination, securing second position in the Bohlabela District, following the Mashishing Circuit, which recorded a 94.8% pass rate. Provincially, the Sabie Circuit ranks 37th out of 71 circuits and consists of nine secondary schools. Of these, five schools have achieved pass rates above 90%, one above 80%, and only one school is performing below the 70% threshold.

“This performance is the result of dedicated teachers, resilient learners, and strong parental and community support,” said MEC Dlamini. She emphasized the importance of building a solid foundation in primary education and called for collaboration among all stakeholders—including parents, unions, municipalities, and local leadership—to sustain and improve results.

The MEC also raised concerns about ongoing challenges related to burglary and school safety. She appealed to the local community to take ownership of their schools and to report any criminal activities to law enforcement authorities to help create a safe and conducive learning environment.

During her address, MEC Dlamini extended heartfelt appreciation to the School Governing Body (SGB), school management team, and teaching staff for their continued efforts in maintaining a high standard of education. “We must do everything possible to raise learner performance. The foundation laid in primary school is crucial to future success,” she emphasized.

In a gesture of support and care, MEC Dlamini donated 50 pairs of school shoes to learners, bringing smiles to many faces. She encouraged learners to remain focused on their studies, reminding them of their role as future leaders and citizens of the province.

Her visit reinforced the Department’s commitment to equitable and quality education for all. The call to action remains clear: a united effort is needed to uplift education in every corner of the province.
