Chiefs’ slump alarms Bafana Bafana legend Radebe

Bafana Bafana icon Lucas Radebe has voiced grave concerns over the current state of
affairs at his former club, Kaizer Chiefs. The legendary defender, who enjoyed a successful
stint with both Chiefs and Bafana Bafana, delivered a sobering verdict on the Glamour Boys’
struggles.

“Having played for the club, knowing how big a brand it is and not having won a trophy for 10
years, it is worrying,” Radebe lamented in a conversation with Independent Newspapers. “It
is concerning for such a big club that they have just dropped like this.”

Radebe’s comments come in the wake of Chiefs’ recent Soweto Derby heartbreak against
Orlando Pirates, where they squandered a two-goal lead to lose 3-2, as well as their
shocking Nedbank Cup elimination at the hands of lower-tier side Milford FC.

“The fact that they are not in the Nedbank Cup is a big disappointment for the fans and for
the club,” Radebe added. “This is what a club strives for – winning trophies and bragging
rights. It shows the wrongs that are happening at the club, and there is a lot that is
happening that we don’t see, which is a huge problem for me.”

The former Bafana icon’s words carry significant weight, having donned the famous gold and
black jersey during his playing days. As Chiefs face the prospect of another trophyless
season, Radebe’s sobering assessment highlights the mounting concerns surrounding the
once-dominant force in South African football.
