Five suspects were remanded in custody

Five suspects appeared at the Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court Tuesday 27 June 2023
after being caught with suspected stolen chrome valued at about R1.5 Million in
Witbank on Friday, 23 June 2023.

According to the report, on the said Friday security personnel from SSG company
received some information about a courier train that was transporting chrome between
Ferro bank (near Witbank) and Richards Bay. Further allegations were that the train
was stopped by a group of suspects. The information was shared with the men and
women in Blue from Witbank who then coordinated resources as a backup to deal with
the situation.

It is further alleged that the group of suspects somehow got inside the train and then
stole chrome. The Police in collaboration with SSG security guards bravely went to the
scene at Olifants plot on the R555 Old Middelburg Road to confront the suspects.

Upon arrival, that was when the five suspects were apprehended by law enforcement
agencies. The five were then charged with theft of chrome. Chrome was also
confiscated at the scene.

The suspects that appeared in court have since been identified as Alex Sutho (18),
Manilo Kabelo (20), Dennis Khoza (22), Emmanuel Khoza (23) and Jarpano Marimi
(24). They were all remanded in custody and are expected to appear again on 04 July
2023 for a formal bail application.
