Members of the National Intervention Unit (NIU) were directed to the recovery of a vehicle that had been stolen in 2021 thanks to information from the province’s police department’s Crime Intelligence organization.
On Monday, June 26, in the wee hours, the team members followed leads that took them to Bushbuckridge, where they saw a silver Mazda 323 Hatchback with two people inside. According to reports, the car had number plates with the Gauteng registration. The two occupants claimed to have abandoned the car and fled on foot when the members approached the vehicle intending to stop it.
Whilst inspecting the vehicle, members discovered that this was the car that they were looking for after it was reported stolen in Tsakane in the Gauteng Province in 2021.
Police are still in pursuit of the suspects with the hope of bringing them to justice.
Meanwhile in the early hours of 26 June members from Visible Policing in Bushbuckridge recovered another vehicle, a VW Polo at a place called Xanthia near Bushbuckridge. The recovery was made after Police received information about a vehicle believed to have been stolen. Further details indicated that this vehicle was only driven during the night. Police approached the house, however when people in the yard realized that the members were approaching, they reportedly fled the scene.
An investigation by the Police revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen at OR Tambo International Airport in March 2023. Police are also still in pursuit of the suspects with the anticipation that they too will soon be brought to justice.
