Two Robbers Shot Dead in Mpumalanga

Police in Mpumalanga are investigating an incident in which two alleged robbers were fatally shot during an attempted robbery at Tonga View on 09 February.

Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane confirmed the incident, stating it occurred around 2 a.m. “According to reports, police responded to a shooting and, upon arrival, found a man with head injuries. The victim explained that he had been walking alone in Tonga View when two men attacked him,” said Ndubane.

One of the assailants reportedly grabbed the victim from behind while the other pointed a firearm at him. The victim fought back and managed to retrieve his licensed firearm.

“In the struggle, he shot both alleged robbers. They sustained gunshot wounds and were later declared dead by paramedics,” Ndubane added.

Police recovered spent cartridges at the scene for further investigation. The victim’s firearm was seized as part of standard procedure.

“A replica firearm loaded with cartridges was found next to the bodies of the deceased,” said Ndubane. “Police have confirmed that the firearm used by the victim is legally registered to him.”

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
