STOLEN LIVESTOCK WORTH R290,000 RECOVERED IN MPUMALANGA

Police and other law enforcement agencies recovered livestock worth more than R290,000 during Operation Basadi at Ndonga Farm and Mafufumbe near Mayflower on Monday, 21 September 2026.

The operation involved the SAPS Stock Theft Unit, Endangered Species Unit, Royal Eswatini Police, SANDF and Visible Policing members.

Among the recoveries were cattle, calves, sheep, goats and carcasses suspected to be linked to stock theft cases in South Africa and Eswatini.

Police also screened 129 cattle and 67 goats and sheep, conducted 19 searches and five farm patrols. No arrests were made, while three notices were issued for alleged violations of the Animal Identification Act and Stock Theft Act.

Mpumalanga Police Commissioner Lt Gen Apaphia Modise said the operation highlighted the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies and neighbouring countries in combating stock theft.
