Neighbour Arrested for Woman’s Murder

Police in Mpumalanga have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the alleged murder of his 30-year-old female neighbour in Mmametlake.

The victim’s body was discovered in a bushy area on Monday, 20 April 2026. The discovery was made by local women who were collecting firewood and immediately alerted members of the Community Policing Forum.

The woman, who was found with visible injuries, was declared dead at the scene.

Police investigations, supported by members of the local community, led to the swift arrest of the suspect, who is believed to have lived next door to the victim. He is expected to appear before the Marapyane Periodical Court on Wednesday, 22 April 2026, where he will face a charge of murder. Authorities have indicated that additional charges may be added as investigations continue.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner in Mpumalanga, Zeph Mkhwanazi, condemned the incident and praised the community for assisting law enforcement without resorting to violence.

He reaffirmed that cases of gender-based violence and femicide remain a priority for police in the province, adding that the matter will be handled with urgency to ensure justice is served.

Police have urged members of the public to continue working with law enforcement to combat violent crime in their communities.
