Fire Probed at Schoemansdal Station

An investigation is underway following a fire incident at the Schoemansdal Police Station on Thursday, 19 February 2026, after two office containers used as workspaces were damaged by flames.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the fire broke out around midday. Police officers on duty at the station noticed the blaze in the containers and immediately reported the incident. No injuries were reported, as all personnel were on duty at the time.

Firefighters and Emergency Services responded swiftly, managing to contain the fire and prevent further damage to the facility. However, the blaze caused damage to the office containers and other items inside them.

Police confirmed that the cause of the fire is still unknown and is currently under investigation. Assessments are also being conducted to determine the full extent of the damage, with further information expected to be shared with the public as it becomes available.

SAPS said it remains committed to maintaining operational capacity and ensuring that service delivery to the community is not disrupted during this period. Members of the public with any relevant information have been urged to come forward.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Zeph Mkhwanazi, said a specialised team of experts has been established to investigate the incident.

“An enquiry has been opened. We trust that the team will do due diligence and get to the bottom of what really transpired,” he said.
