Members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) have confiscated illicit goods worth R695,181 during intensified border security operations at the Beitbridge Port of Entry.

During patrols in the early hours of 26 July 2026, soldiers intercepted suspects transporting contraband. The suspects fled after spotting the SANDF, abandoning their cargo.

The operation resulted in the seizure of illicit cigarettes worth R680,301 and alcoholic beverages valued at R14,880. All confiscated goods were handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for further investigation.

Acting Officer Commanding Joint Tactical Headquarters Limpopo, Lieutenant Colonel Joy Stasie, praised the troops for their professionalism, saying the success reflected strong leadership, effective planning, and the application of military training.

The SANDF said it remains committed to supporting law enforcement agencies in combating smuggling and illegal cross-border activities.
