Popular businessman Big Joe Nyalungu has allegedly been gunned down in what residents are describing as a “second hit” at Mkhuhlu in Mpumalanga.

Police confirmed that a 62-year-old prominent man was shot dead at his business premises on Saturday afternoon, 16 May 2026.

According to police, the incident happened at about 14:30 when two armed suspects reportedly jumped out of a white bakkie and approached the victim while he was seated with other people.

The victim allegedly tried to run for safety, but the suspects chased after him and fired several shots before fleeing the scene in the same vehicle.

Paramedics declared him dead at the scene.

Police further revealed that the deceased had survived another shooting attack at the same premises just a week earlier, leading community members to describe the latest killing as a “second hit”.

The motive for the murder is still unknown and police have opened a murder case.
