Mpumalanga beneficiaries no longer need to spend hours standing in long queues at SASSA offices to complete their life certification, as the South African Social Security Agency has introduced an electronic self-service platform aimed at making the process quicker and easier.

SASSA Mpumalanga said beneficiaries can now access e-life certification through an online platform designed to operate smoothly and help clients confirm their eligibility for continued social grant payments.

According to Mpumalanga Regional Executive Manager Mr Mahlangu, the e-life certification system allows beneficiaries to verify that they are still alive and still qualify to receive their grants. He said the system is linked to the Department of Home Affairs, and once the process is approved, the beneficiary will continue receiving their social grant.

Mr Mahlangu said the agency is driving the rollout of the system to ensure it becomes a real relief for beneficiaries across the province. He encouraged those who have the necessary tools and access to use the self-service portal.

He said the service would help beneficiaries save both travel costs and time, especially those who would otherwise need to visit an office in person.

At the same time, SASSA stressed that beneficiaries who are unable to use the online platform, particularly in rural communities, will still receive assistance at local offices.

Mr Mahlangu said the agency understands that some residents may face challenges in accessing the electronic service, and added that beneficiaries should not hesitate to visit SASSA offices for support and quality service. He said this forms part of the agency’s Know Your Client programme.

He added that the move is also one of the strategies to prevent fraud by stopping bogus or ghost beneficiaries from unfairly benefiting from public funds, while ensuring that deserving and qualifying people receive the social assistance meant for them.
