Long-distance runner Khulekani Mabena, a rising athlete from the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, has secured second place in the 10,000m race at the Mpumalanga TVET Championships.

Representing Ngodwana Marathon Club, Mabena competed at the provincial championships held in Secunda on 7 March, finishing the 10,000m race in an impressive 36 minutes to claim the silver medal.

The achievement highlights Mabena’s steady progress in long-distance running and his commitment to improving his performances on the provincial athletics stage.

Earlier this year, Mabena also participated in the NMC Fast One 10km, completing the race in 32:46. The event marked his first official road race, a significant step for the young athlete as he begins to build experience in competitive road running.

Following his recent successes, Mabena is expected to travel to Cape Town on 17 March, where he will continue competing and gaining exposure in national-level races.

His achievements have brought pride to Ngodwana Marathon Club and supporters in Mpumalanga, who see him as one of the province’s promising long-distance talents.
