Police in Bushbuckridge have warned community members against taking belongings from accident scenes after items belonging to victims were reportedly removed following a crash.

According to SAPS in Bushbuckridge, the incident occurred on the R40 Road near Ga-Relane, where a Volkswagen Polo was involved in an accident.

Police say that during the aftermath of the crash, some community members searched through the scene and collected personal the victim’s belongings. Among the items reportedly taken were identity documents, which are crucial for the families as they complete necessary procedures related to the victims.

Bushbuckridge SAPS has strongly discouraged such behaviour, emphasising that removing items from accident scenes is unacceptable and may hinder investigations as well as processes required by the victims’ families.

Authorities have appealed to anyone who may have collected or seen the victims’ personal documents or belongings to immediately inform the police or hand the items in at the nearest police station. This will assist the families in completing the required procedures.
