Police in Mpumalanga have recovered multiple consignments of dagga during operations conducted along the R39 road between Ermelo and Standerton.
According to the South African Police Service, members of the Crime Prevention Unit at Morgenzon carried out routine stop-and-search duties in the early hours of 2 April 2026, when they discovered five plastic bags containing dagga.
The discovery was made during ongoing policing operations aimed at preventing criminal activities along the busy route.
In a separate but related operation on the same day, officers from the Visible Policing Support Unit worked together with detectives to conduct a vehicle checkpoint along the same stretch of road. During the operation, police recovered two additional compressed parcels of dagga.
Authorities have confirmed that suspects linked to the seizures are expected to appear in court soon.
Police say the operations form part of broader efforts to curb the illegal distribution and abuse of drugs within communities across the province.
The South African Police Service reiterated its commitment to intensifying efforts to combat drug-related crime and ensure safer communities.
