Two men, aged 30 and 42, have been arrested after they were caught allegedly slaughtering stolen cattle at a farm in Mayflower.

According to a media statement issued by the Office of the Provincial Commissioner of police in Mpumalanga, the arrests took place on Tuesday, 24 March 2026, following a tip-off about suspicious activity at Ngodini Farm in the Mayflower forest area.

Police responded swiftly to information that five men were slaughtering cattle on the property. Upon arrival, the suspects reportedly fled in different directions. Officers managed to apprehend two individuals at the scene, while three others remain at large.

The carcasses of the slaughtered cattle, believed to be stolen, were discovered on the premises. The two arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Mayflower Magistrate’s Court, facing charges of stock theft and possession of stolen livestock.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the remaining suspects.

Authorities have also issued a stern warning to those involved in stock theft, as well as members of the public who knowingly purchase stolen meat. Police stressed that buying stolen livestock fuels criminal activity and remains a serious offence.
