A 46-year-old man has been arrested for reckless speeding after being caught driving at 188km/h on the N1 near Mookgopong, Limpopo.
The arrest was confirmed by the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, which said the incident occurred yesterday during routine traffic law enforcement operations. The driver was detained at Naboom Police Station and will face charges related to excessive speeding.
The department praised Officer Maphologela MP for the arrest, commending the officer’s commitment to road safety and law enforcement.
In a strong warning to motorists, the department reiterated that a zero-tolerance approach to speeding is being enforced across Limpopo’s roads.
“Drivers who ignore traffic laws should expect serious consequences,” the statement said, adding that ongoing operations aim to reduce accidents, injuries and fatalities caused by reckless driving.
Authorities continue to urge all road users to obey speed limits and prioritise safety for themselves and others on Limpopo’s roads.
