Motorists are urged to exercise caution following damage to sections of the R533 road between Graskop in Thaba Chweu Local Municipality and Bushbuckridge town after heavy rainfall over the weekend.

The Ehlanzeni District Municipality confirmed that the damage was caused by persistent torrential rains, which have affected road infrastructure in parts of the district. In response, the District has activated its District Joint Operations Centre (DJOC) to coordinate disaster management efforts.

The DJOC comprises disaster management officials from all four local municipalities within Ehlanzeni — City of Mbombela, Nkomazi, Thaba Chweu and Bushbuckridge. Teams from these municipalities have been dispatched to monitor conditions and respond swiftly to any situations requiring immediate intervention as rainfall continues.

Road users, particularly motorists travelling along the affected sections of the R533, are advised to drive with extreme caution and adhere to road safety measures. The public is further urged to use alternative routes where bridges have been submerged and to avoid crossing flooded areas until water levels are confirmed to be safe.

The Ehlanzeni District Municipality said it will continue monitoring the situation and will provide updates as conditions develop.

In case of emergencies, the public can contact Mr Zwakele Maseko on 079 888 2226.
