Police in Acornhoek have arrested two 16-year-old boys in connection with an armed robbery that took place in the Happy Dam area on 12 December 2025.

 The incident involved a 43-year-old man who was driving a taxi to his home. Upon arriving and parking outside his yard, he was allegedly confronted by four armed males as he exited the vehicle. The suspects are said to have held him at gunpoint before robbing him of cash and disarming him of his licensed pistol.

Following the incident, a case of armed robbery was opened and investigations were immediately launched. This led to the arrest of two suspects, both minors aged 16. Police confirmed that the suspects were also found in possession of a firearm.

Given the age of the suspects, the South African Police Service is working closely with probation officers to ensure that all legal processes are handled in line with legislation governing children in conflict with the law.

The two minors face serious charges, including armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm. Their court appearance at the Acornhoek Magistrate’s Court will be facilitated in collaboration with probation officers.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has assured the community that police are working tirelessly to apprehend the remaining two suspects linked to the crime.

He further appealed to members of the public to assist law enforcement by reporting any information that could help bring those responsible to justice, stressing that community cooperation remains vital in the fight against crime.
