Police in Acornhoek have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with a murder that took place at a tavern in Ka Zitha Trust over the weekend.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, 13 December 2025, at around 06h00, within the Acornhoek policing precinct. Officers were alerted to a male victim who had been taken to hospital after sustaining a stab wound.

Upon arrival at the hospital, police discovered that the victim had succumbed to his injuries. A case of murder was immediately opened, and investigations commenced without delay.

While police were still gathering information and following up leads, a family member brought a suspect to the local police station. The suspect was subsequently arrested and formally charged with murder.

At this stage, the motive for the killing remains unclear and will form part of the ongoing investigation. Police have indicated that further details may emerge as inquiries continue.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Acornhoek Magistrate’s Court soon to face the charge.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has praised the family members for their responsible action in bringing the suspect to the police. He reiterated the SAPS’s commitment to conducting a thorough investigation to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to ensure justice is served.

Police have urged community members to continue working with law enforcement by reporting crime and providing information that may assist investigations.
