A councillor from Ward 29 in Pienaar has been arrested on two counts of attempted murder following a violent confrontation linked to the tragic death of a teenage girl.

According to police, the incident began on 20 November 2025 when a distressed 16-year-old allegedly told her father that a boy from her school had been abusing her. The father attempted to confront the boy at his home, but he was not present. Later that day, the father discovered that his daughter had taken her own life. He rushed her to a local clinic, where she was declared dead.

While the grieving father was at home that evening, members of his late wife’s family arrived and questioned why they had not been informed of the child’s death. An argument followed, and during the altercation, a family acquaintance—who is also a local councillor—allegedly drew a firearm and fired a shot. The bullet grazed both the father and a neighbour who tried to intervene.

Both victims received medical treatment, and two attempted murder cases were opened at Pienaar SAPS on 21 November 2025. A police investigation led to the arrest of the 34-year-old councillor.

He is expected to appear in the Kanyamazane Periodical Court on Monday, 24 November 2025.
