A 41-year-old man has been arrested in Kaapmuiden after police allegedly found crystal meth worth an estimated R350 000 hidden inside two books wrapped in decorative paper.
The arrest took place on 15 November at around 07:00 along the N4 near Kaapmuiden, after a police officer received a tip-off about a suspicious man standing beside the road. When the officer approached and requested to search the man’s bag, he uncovered the concealed packages.
Inside the books, officers discovered white compressed substances which were later confirmed to be crystal meth weighing 1.455 kilograms.
According to police, the suspect claimed he did not know what he was carrying. He allegedly told officers that he is homeless, originally from Springs, and had been picked up from the street, given the parcel, and instructed to deliver it to Mozambique. From there, he was allegedly expected to travel on to Brazil.
The man was arrested on the spot and is set to appear before the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on 17 November 2025 on charges of drug possession.
