A 41-year-old man was arrested in Mayflower for allegedly being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

According to a statement from the Office of the Provincial Commissioner in Mpumalanga, the arrest took place on Monday, 3 November 2025, at around 2pm. Members of the Highway Patrol Unit were conducting routine patrols when they received a tip-off about a man carrying a firearm at Shabalala Trust, Dundonald.

Police officers acted swiftly and proceeded to the scene, where they found the suspect. When approached, the man reportedly brandished the firearm, but officers managed to disarm and arrest him without incident.

A Taurus Z88 9mm pistol, one magazine and nine live rounds of ammunition were seized during the operation. The firearm will undergo forensic ballistic testing to determine whether it has been used in any other crimes.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Chief Albert Luthuli Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 4 November 2025.
