MEC Thomo Takes Test Ride on New Electric Bus

Mpumalanga MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport, Thulasizwe Thomo, kicked off an early morning with a symbolic yet practical bus ride aboard Buscor’s new electric bus as part of the ongoing October Transport Month activities.

The test ride, joined by MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie, and senior officials from both departments, was aimed at experiencing first-hand the benefits of the electric bus currently on pilot by Buscor. The initiative marks a major step towards greener, safer, and more sustainable public transport in the province.

MEC Thomo applauded Buscor for leading innovation in the transportation sector and championing clean energy solutions. “Public transport plays a vital role in driving inclusive growth and reducing carbon emissions. We commend Buscor for leading by example in embracing green technology and ensuring that our people have access to modern, efficient, and environmentally friendly transport,” he said.

He further emphasised that strong collaboration between government and the private sector remains essential in improving the efficiency, safety, and reliability of public transport services.

The Transport Month campaign continues to promote the importance of safe, accessible, and sustainable transport systems that contribute to Mpumalanga’s economic and social development.
