The Department of Education has congratulated St. Marks Academy from the Mbombela Circuit in Ehlanzeni District for their remarkable triumph at the 2025 Kay Motsepe Schools’ Soccer Tournament.

The school’s Under-19 boys’ team were crowned national champions after defeating Fumani Secondary School from Katlehong, Gauteng, in a hard-fought final. The deciding goal secured a 1–0 victory and a prestigious R3 million prize. Their journey to glory included overcoming the formidable Clapham High School, a side with a strong reputation in school football, proving that determination and teamwork can conquer all odds.

Adding to the celebrations, the St. Marks Under-19 girls’ team impressed with their spirited display, earning second place after a dramatic 5–4 penalty shootout against St. Anne’s of the Free State. Their runners-up finish secured an additional R400,000 in prize money.

The Department commended all schools for their remarkable performances and extended heartfelt congratulations to learners, coaches, and educators for flying the Mpumalanga flag with pride.
