Police in Mpumalanga have arrested two men, aged 47 and 26, in connection with the murder of a 19-year-old male in Mgobodzi Trust, Ehlanzeni District, on Monday, 29 September 2025.

According to reports, officers were dispatched to the scene following a complaint of murder. Upon arrival, they discovered that a family dispute had escalated, resulting in the fatal assault of the young man.

Preliminary information suggests the incident was linked to allegations of rape involving the deceased and a 15-year-old girl.

Both suspects were taken into custody and charged with murder. They are expected to appear before the Tonga Magistrates’ Court soon.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, condemned the killing and urged communities to report crimes through proper channels rather than resorting to vigilante action.

“Acts of family-related violence and vigilantism are unacceptable. We appeal to residents to work with the police and allow justice to take its course,” he said.
