Operation Shanela II Continues to Yield Results
Operation Shanela II in Mpumalanga has delivered strong results between 25 and 28 September 2025, reinforcing the South African Police Service’s (SAPS) commitment to crime prevention and public safety.
According to police, 7 800 actions were carried out across the province, including seven roadblocks. These operations led to the arrest of 1 254 suspects for offences such as contravening the Immigration Act, illegal possession of firearms, drug-related crimes, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, rape, drinking in public, and illegal liquor trading.
In addition, police confiscated five firearms, 10 vehicles, 18.19 kilograms of drugs, and R2 900 in cash.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, praised the dedication of officers and partner departments who took part in the operation.
“We remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of our communities. The success of Operation Shanela II demonstrates the impact of coordinated efforts, and we appreciate the invaluable support from our partner departments,” he said.
Police confirmed that similar crime-combatting initiatives will continue across the province to uphold law and order.
