More than ten people were injured in a three-vehicle collision on the R40 near Riverside in Mbombela on Tuesday, 16 September.

The crash involved a Buscor bus, a minibus taxi and a VW Polo hatchback. The cause of the accident has not yet been confirmed. Emergency workers used the Jaws of Life to free the Polo driver and the front passenger of the taxi.

Several passengers from the bus and taxi sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious and were transported to nearby hospitals. The Buscor driver was not harmed.

According to a video circulating on social media, the taxi, travelling towards Mbombela, allegedly turned right at a red traffic light without stopping, colliding with the sedan before hitting the bus. Both the sedan and the bus were travelling towards White River.

Moeti Mmusi, spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety and Security Liaison, confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident. He urged motorists to exercise caution to prevent road crashes.
