Six teenagers have been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of 19-year-old matric pupil Mcedisi Christopher Nhlapho in Tjakastad, near Elukwatini, Mpumalanga. The incident occurred on 27 May afternoon while Nhlapho was walking home from school with friends. A 15-year-old suspect was arrested shortly after the incident, with additional arrests following on Wednesday, bringing the total number of suspects to six, aged between 15 and 19. Four of the suspects, who are minors, have been referred to a probation officer for assessment. The remaining two suspects, aged 18 and 19, are expected to appear at the Chief Albert Luthuli Magistrate’s Court on 29 May.
Acting provincial police commissioner Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi expressed deep concern over the incident, emphasizing that learners should focus on their studies, not violence. He urged parents, schools, and communities to work together to address the root causes of youth violence.
