The construction of the Sasol garage in Marite is currently underway but has faced delays due to Eskom’s pending removal of electrical poles. The developers have already submitted a request to Eskom, and once the issue is resolved, the project is expected to be completed by May.

Following the completion of the garage, construction of the Marite Mall will begin. Initially, the mall was expected to be finished by March, but delays in demolishing existing structures have pushed back the timeline. Houses in the area still need to be demolished, and new residences must be built for the affected families.

On March 31, local chiefs held a meeting to discuss the relocation of graves situated in the affected yards. While the mall project remains promising, the developers hope that this time, the demolitions will proceed more efficiently, preventing further delays.

Additionally, there are concerns about the fact that resettlement housing for displaced residents has not yet begun. Despite this, an inspection by Sasol officials is scheduled for April 11, marking another step forward in the process.

Once completed, the Sasol garage and Marite Mall are expected to bring significant economic growth and convenience to the area.
