bushbuckridge mayor donates school uniform to learners
As part of the annual back-to-school campaign on 23 January, the Executive Mayor of Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, Councillor ML Moroane, visited several schools to provide motivation and much-needed support to learners and the school communities. The Mayor was joined by the MMC for Social Development, the Speaker of the Council, Councillor Raganya, and members of the Social Development portfolio committee.

The campaign saw the delegation visiting Freddy Sithole High, Saselani Primary, Twalakule Primary, and Matlolane Primary Schools. The visits aimed to inspire learners to excel in their studies, strengthen collaboration between the municipality and the schools, and address pressing needs within the school environment.
A significant highlight of the day was the donation of school uniforms to at least 215 learners across all four schools. Each uniform kit consisted of essential items, including school shoes, jerseys, skirts, trousers, shirts, socks, and school bags. The initiative aimed to ensure that learners have access to necessities, enabling them to attend school with dignity and focus on their education.
At Twalakule Primary School, Councillor Moroane made a personal commitment to the school principal to return with additional uniforms for other learners identified as being in dire need of support. This promise reflects the Mayor’s dedication to addressing socio-economic challenges faced by learners in the community.
“This campaign is not only about providing material assistance but also about motivating learners to embrace education as a key to their future. We want them to know that the municipality supports their academic journey and is committed to creating an environment where every child could thrive,” said the Executive Mayor during her address at one of the schools.

The back-to-school initiative highlights the municipality’s efforts to promote access to quality education and reduce barriers that hinder learners’ academic progress. By providing uniforms and engaging directly with school communities, the campaign seeks to restore confidence in learners and encourage a sense of pride in their education.
The Mayor’s actions have been praised by educators and community members alike. Many expressed gratitude for the municipality’s efforts to support vulnerable learners and emphasised the importance of such interventions in promoting equal education opportunities.
This initiative reflects the broader commitment of Bushbuckridge Local Municipality to uplift its youth and foster community-driven development. By addressing immediate needs and promoting education, the municipality continues to lay a strong foundation for a brighter future for its learners.
Councillor Moroane’s leadership in spearheading this initiative serves as a reminder of the vital role local government can play in improving the lives of young people and empowering communities.
