Mpumalanga Police have condemned a shocking incident in Embalenhle, where a 32-year-old female police constable and a 35-year-old man were shot, allegedly by a 35-year-old suspect, on 13 November night around 10 p.m.
Tragically, the male victim succumbed to his injuries on 14 November as confirmed by Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, provincial police spokesperson.
Details of the Incident
According to preliminary information, police were alerted to gunshots in the Embalenhle area. On arrival, officers discovered two victims lying near a vehicle with serious gunshot wounds.

Emergency responders transported the injured victims to the hospital. While the male victim later passed away, the police constable remains hospitalized, receiving medical care.
Swift Arrest of the Suspect
A manhunt was immediately launched for the suspect. Thanks to swift collaboration between the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Flying Squad Unit in the North West province, the suspect was apprehended between Potchefstroom and Ventersdorp.
A case of murder is under investigation, and the suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
Possible Motive and Commissioner’s Response
While the exact motive remains unclear, investigators have not ruled out domestic violence. Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, expressed concern over violence against women, particularly involving law enforcement personnel.
“Our preliminary investigation suggests the possibility of domestic violence. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this difficult time. We will ensure that justice is served for the victims and that the suspect faces the full might of the law,” said Mkhwanazi.
