Matsulu Police in Mpumalanga are investigating a hijacking and attempted murder after a 43-year-old man was shot, and his VW Polo was stolen on the N4 near the KaNyamazane turn-off on 13 November.
Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli reported that officers patrolling the area encountered the injured man attempting to flag down cars for help.
Incident Details
The victim explained to police that he had been fishing with a friend at the Mgwenya River when a group of armed hijackers approached. The men demanded his car keys before shooting him in the leg. While the victim’s friend managed to escape unharmed, the hijackers fled with the vehicle.
Emergency responders from Emer-G-Med quickly transported the victim to Nelspruit Mediclinic for medical attention.
Ongoing Investigation
Brigadier Mdhluli confirmed that the stolen vehicle has not yet been recovered, and the suspects remain at large.
“The search for the gunmen and the vehicle is ongoing,” he said.
