Showmax braces for court clash over Bester doccie

Showmax is gearing up for a legal showdown as Thabo Bester and Nandipha Magudumana,
the infamous duo at the centre of the high-profile prison escape case, seek to block the
release of a four-part documentary detailing their saga. The Johannesburg High Court will
hear arguments on Friday regarding the potential halt of the ‘Tracking Thabo Bester’ special,
scheduled to premiere on the same day.

The documentary, featuring interviews with journalists, prisoners, wardens, and the family of
the deceased Katlego Bereng Mpholo, promises an in-depth look into the daring escape and
subsequent events. However, Bester and Magudumana’s legal teams have filed last-minute
applications to prevent its release, citing threats to their client’s rights.

MultiChoice, the parent company of Showmax, has confirmed that it will vigorously oppose
the applications, calling the allegations against the duo “incredibly serious.” In a statement,
the company affirmed its belief in the public’s right to form informed opinions, asserting that
the attempt to suppress the documentary breaches constitutional rights.

As the court prepares to hear arguments from both sides, the stage is set for a high-stakes
legal battle that could determine the fate of the much-anticipated docuseries. Showmax
remains steadfast in its commitment to bringing this story to the public, while Bester and
Magudumana seek to exercise their right to protect their interests.
