The African National Congress (ANC) in Mpumalanga has suspended its Treasurer, Mandla Msibi, accusing him of engaging in disruptive conduct and sabotaging the party’s January 8 celebration events.
In a letter on Friday, the ANC said Msibi broke the party’s constitution by participating in plans to undermine the January 8 statement. As a member of the Provincial Executive Committee and Provincial Treasurer, Msibi understood the importance of implementing the organization’s decisions, the letter stated.
The party concluded that Msibi’s conduct brought the ANC into shame and warranted his immediate suspension. Msibi currently faces charges of murder and attempted murder and is out on bail.
In April 2022, two witnesses in Msibi’s murder case withdrew their statements, saying they had been persuaded by an ANC regional leader to falsely implicate Msibi. The ANC said Msibi’s suspension was justified due to his disruptive actions and the seriousness of the charges he faces. The suspension highlights growing divisions within the party in Mpumalanga.
