On Wednesday, Athlenda Mathe, the spokeswoman for the national police, announced that Mthobisi Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, and Mdumiseni Ntuli will face charges from police warden Vusi Jele.

“The South African Police Service affirms that it is looking into an assault case in relation to an event that occurred in court on Monday, where accused three, four, and five attacked a jail official.”

Jele and three of the accused got into a heated disagreement on Monday about how they were seated during the tea break.

There was a fight amongst the four males.

Jele gave the accused four instructions “to sit properly” as he was perched on the court bench.

Makgothi Thobakgale, the head of national prisons, denounced the act and promised that those responsible would face consequences.
