Cele calls on police to protect themselves

Speaking during the officer’s funeral in Ntuzuma on Sunday, Cele emphasised his sadness and anger over the nation’s increasing number of police officer murders.

Bheki Cele, the minister of police, declared that there was a war against policemen and urged them to defend themselves at all costs.

Speaking at Officer Sthembiso Mazibuko’s funeral, Cele said that he was shot and died last week in Ntuzuma.

During the gunfight, four suspects were fatally shot.

The number of police officers murdered while performing their duties had increased in 2023; according to recent figures, the number of cops killed in the first quarter of the year nearly doubled from 2022 to 2023.

Cele stated that when confronting offenders, police must not back down.

According to him, police have a responsibility to safeguard communities, but they also have an obligation to take the necessary precautions to keep themselves safe.
