Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis has announced the team that will represent South Africa in this year’s COSAFA Women’s Championship.

While Ellis will not have most of the players who participated in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand a few weeks ago, she still has the personnel to ably represent the country in the regional tournament. Teams with three or more players in the final Banyana Banyana COSAFA squad have their matches in the Hollywoodbets Super League postponed.

The Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana open their account when they face 2021 finalists Malawi at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville at 15h00 on Wednesday (4 October 2023). This match will be preceded by a meeting between Madagascar and Eswatini at 12h00 at the same venue.

Ellis’ charges were drawn against Malawi, Madagascar and Eswatini in Group A and she is happy to be getting down to work in the tournament.

“We have had challenges but we are now ready to start the tournament and represent the country in the COSAFA Women’s Championship,” the South African senior women’s team coach said.

Entrance to all matches during the competition is FREE, with fans able to collect their tickets on match-day on a first come, first served basis. The tournament will be hosted in Gauteng from October 4-15.
