South African National Parks (SANParks) today announced the tragic drowning of a contractor at the staff residential swimming pool in Skukuza, Kruger National Park (KNP). 

The incident took place on Tuesday, 03 October 2023 at approximately 17H00. The incident was reported to the South African Police Services (SAPS) Station in Skukuza, who were on the scene and will investigate the circumstances around the incident.

The Managing Executive (ME) of the KNP, Oscar Mthimkhulu extended his condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased saying “This is an unfortunate incident, the resident doctor and other first responders were notified and tried all they could to save his life but were unsuccessful. On behalf of the organisation, we extend our sincere condolences to family, colleagues and friends and wish them strength during this difficult period” concluded Mthimkhulu.

The name of the deceased is being withheld until his next of kin has been notified.
