Police are investigating the double murder incident which left seven other victims hospitalised in Alexandra near Calcutta on September 23.
A provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, said the incident occurred at about 02:25. He said police and paramedics were called out to the scene where two people Tebogo Mhlabini (30), and Philile Hangisi (29) were certified dead.
The seven wounded victims were rushed to hospital.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that an unidentified number of gunmen reportedly opened fire on the victims who sustained multiple gunshot wounds.” He spoke.
It is further said that one of the victims was fatally shot whilst inside the car though the other victim who died also, was found lying on the ground. The injured seven victims were found scattered around the said premises.
The motive for the shooting is currently unknown.
He stated that the suspects may have fired high-calibre weapons during the shooting. Eight empty rifle ammunition and six empty 9mm pistol cartridges were among the evidence found at the scene.
He indicated that the investigation will include the items that were taken. He added that claims that the location may have been involved in the sale of alcohol would also be looked into.
