The MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mandla Msibi, has expressed shock and outrage at the heinous murder of Cllr. Lot Nkuna, affectionately known as ‘Bazooka’ in the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality.
On Sunday, September 24, 2023, Councillor Lot Nkuna, and others in his company were senselessly aimed at when gunshots were fired. Two people including Nkuna died instantly while others miraculously survived shots on a narrow escape. It is understood that one person who suffered severe injuries is currently being hospitalised under intensive care.
“We are deeply worried about the brutal killing of Councillors and innocent persons in the province. These heinous acts of violent crimes against public officials must stop, and law enforcement agencies must urgently restore peace and order in our Province. The Mighty arm of Justice should urgently occupy its role and we vow that we shall not rest until perpetrators are successfully apprehended,” said Msibi.
He strongly condemns the brutal murders of councillors and calls on law enforcement agencies to act swiftly to apprehend the perpetrators and suspects of these monstrous crimes. He also urged the residents of Bushbuckridge to remain calm and united during these trying times and to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in providing any information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible.
Msibi went on to say that local government institutions could not function effectively in an environment of fear and the constant threat of political violence.
Lastly, he has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Nkuna family and the entire Bushbuckridge Local Municipality. May his soul rest in eternal peace!
