Winter vacation classes commence

Winter vacation classes will be held by the Mpumalanga Department of Education from
June 26 until July 7, 2023.

For the 167 schools with pass rates below 70% in the 2022 National Senior
Examination Results, these winter break sessions will be held at 115-day centres and
11 residential camps.

The targeted subjects are the 11 high enrolment subjects: Mathematics, Mathematical
Literacy, Physical Science, Life Sciences, Economics, Accounting, Business Studies,
History, Geography, Agricultural Science and English First Additional Language.

Where necessary, student transportation will be made available, and all 167 of the
schools’ students will receive sustenance.

Each student will enrol in a maximum of three topics during the vacation sessions,
which will be taught by the best-performing teachers.

Residential camps will include selected best-performing learners in Mathematics,
Physical Sciences and Accounting.

“We are committed to providing our learners with the best possible support to enable
them to improve their performance and to realize their potential,” said the MEC for
Education, Mr Bonakele Majuba.

These vacation classes will allow our learners to catch up on any missed learning and
prepare for the upcoming NSC examinations.

The Department is urging all learners who are eligible to attend the vacation classes to
do so and to take advantage of this added support.

The classes are a valuable opportunity to improve their chances of success in the final
National Senior Certificate Examination.
