71-year-old father faces court for shooting biological son

A 71-year-old male is expected to appear before Mankweng Magistrate Court soon
facing a charge of murder of his 26-year-old son at Mentz village, Malesa outside
Mankweng on Saturday 24 June 2023 at about 11:50.

According to reports, police were alerted to a shooting in the neighbourhood and
hurriedly dispatched to the scene, where they discovered the victim lying in a pool of
blood on the sidewalk. Police discovered after more investigation that the victim had
been shot in the upper body.

The members of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were summoned to the scene
and declared a 26-year-old male dead upon arrival.

According to preliminary police investigations, the victim was shot by his biological
father, who then barricaded himself inside the home. The culprit was eventually
captured when police were able to convince him to leave the house.

During the arrest, Police confiscated a revolver firearm that was used for the
commission of the crime with three live ammunition and two empty cartridges.
The motive of the incident is currently unknown at this stage but Police investigations
are continuing to determine the cause of the murder.
