suspects use a courier van and SUV for dagga trafficking

On Friday, June 23, 2023, two suspects, ages 29 and 45, are scheduled to appear in
the Piet Retief Magistrate’s Court on allegations of trafficking dagga while utilizing an
SUV and a courier van.

Their presence follows their arrest on June 22 at around 9:30 a.m. by Piet Retief SAPS
officers. According to reports, the dagga was found after the police halted a delivery
vehicle bearing North West registration number plates. The members then stopped a
Mazda SUV and a second car. Then, after a search, dagga was discovered inside as
well.

Preliminary investigations revealed that both of the two drivers may have been on the
same mission.

They may have been travelling to the North West Province, according to subsequent
investigations.

The two suspects were arrested and charged with dealing in dagga. The total
confiscated dagga weighs about 186 kilograms with an estimated street value of about
R 358 000. Both vehicles were confiscated for further investigation as the police believe
that the cars were used in the commission of crime.
