The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga welcomes a hefty sentence
imposed by the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court which was sitting in Delmas on
Friday 09 June 2023. Thapelo Aubrey Mokgomong (32) was sentenced to two life terms
following the gruesome murder of his child’s mother and his stepdaughter in the
Siyathemba informal settlement in Balfour.
Ms Nthabiseng Kubheka (24) and Thandeka Kubheka (02) were found murdered in their
residential place on 06 June 2022.
Nthabiseng’s lifeless body was found laying in the kitchen whilst Thandeka’s lifeless
body was found with neck injuries in the bedroom. Investigation revealed that
Nthabiseng died as a result of strangulation.
The culprit was immediately arrested and made his first appearance in Balfour
Magistrate’s Court on 09 June 2022 on two counts of murder as well as for defeating the
ends of justice.
Mokgomong was sentenced to two life terms which will run concurrently and he was
further declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General
Semakaleng Daphney Manamela further indicated that justice was indeed served for
the victims of Gender-Based-Violence as well as their families.
