The Acting Provincial Commissioner in Mpumalanga has welcomed the sentencing of a 48-year-old man to an effective 30 years’ imprisonment for murder, assault and kidnapping

Emmanuel Tivane was sentenced by the Mhala Regional Court on 20 April 2026 following his conviction on multiple serious charges.

According to police, the incident occurred in the early hours of 23 December 2024 in the Technical area of Acornhoek. Tivane allegedly forced entry into a residence by throwing a brick at the door after finding his ex-wife with a male companion.

He was reportedly armed with two knives and proceeded to stab the male victim. The victim was rushed to the hospital but later died from his injuries.

Tivane was arrested on the same day and charged with murder. Upon conviction, the court handed down the following sentences:

• 15 years’ imprisonment for murder
• 10 years for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH)
• 5 years for kidnapping

The court ordered that the sentences for assault and kidnapping run concurrently, resulting in an effective 30-year prison term. Tivane was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
