ActionSA has called for an independent and transparent investigation into serious allegations made by suspended Mpumalanga police commissioner, Daphney Semakaleng Manamela.

In a statement, ActionSA MPL Thoko Mashiane said the claims point to possible corruption, political interference and the alleged protection of criminal elements within the South African Police Service (SAPS).

Mashiane warned that, if proven true, the allegations raise serious concerns about the integrity of policing in the province and the ability of law enforcement agencies to combat crime effectively.

She stressed that any investigation must be conducted outside SAPS structures to ensure impartiality and credibility, adding that it should have the authority to hold accountable those implicated, including senior leadership.

The party also highlighted the importance of safeguarding whistleblowers who come forward with information in the public interest. It noted that it has already introduced the Fallen Whistleblowers Bill in Parliament, aimed at strengthening protections for individuals exposing wrongdoing.

ActionSA maintains that residents of Mpumalanga deserve a police service that is accountable, transparent and free from corruption. The party said decisive action is required to restore public trust in law enforcement institutions.
