A man accused of pretending to be a police officer is appearing before the Mhala Magistrate’s Court today, Friday, 17 April, on a charge of murdering his girlfriend.
Derrick Khoza was arrested after the body of 30-year-old Dolly Ndlovu was discovered in his bed in Agincourt last February. The grim discovery was made by a domestic worker who had gone to wash the bedding.
According to the victim’s family, Khoza allegedly maintained a long-running deception, claiming he was employed at Tembisa Police Station. He is said to have carried a bag containing a police uniform, which he would ask Ndlovu to wash to sustain the false identity.
Following the incident, Khoza reportedly fled the area but was later tracked down by police. He was found hiding at a sangoma’s residence near Mkhuhlu.
Scores of community members from Agincourt and MP Stream have gathered at court in support of Ndlovu’s family. The crowd is calling for the accused, whom they have labelled a “fake policeman”, to be denied bail and remain in custody as the case proceeds.
