The dust has begun to rise at Chayaza Secondary School in the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, marking a major step towards transforming the school into a modern, state-of-the-art learning facility.

Construction on the project is currently 17% complete, signalling steady progress towards improving the school’s infrastructure and learning environment.

Once finished, the development will include 20 new classrooms, an administration block, science laboratories, a media and mathematics laboratory, a fully equipped library and computer lab, a kitchen and a multipurpose hall. Specialised chemistry and technology laboratories will also form part of the new facilities.

In addition to academic infrastructure, the project will introduce a sports court and sports ground, an assembly area, covered parking bays, new fencing and a guardhouse to improve safety and accessibility at the school.

The development forms part of ongoing government efforts to improve conditions for teaching and learning across the province. Authorities say the project reflects a shared vision of creating safe and supportive spaces where both learners and educators can thrive.

Community members have welcomed the development, expressing hope that the upgraded facilities will benefit future generations of learners.

Once completed, the project is expected to bring pride to the community and improve the quality of education in the Bushbuckridge area.
